Disturbed sleep patterns or not sleeping at all can cause havoc in our lives as we cannot function properly as it affects our ability to think clearly and function well.

Chinese Medicine recognises different patterns and causes in insomnia. Stress and depression are a major cause for keeping us awake. Not able to unwind and relax to drop off as a result of a life that is too full without enough relaxation. Poor diet can be a cause, or eating not long before going to bed. Worry and overthinking keeps us awake, and this can become chronic if we are not able to switch off. Spleen and Kidney function are depleted by stress, poor diet and lack of relaxation and sleep. Liver Qi is too strong from stress and rises up, resulting in us not being able to wind down.

Acupuncture can treat the underlying cause of insomnia by strengthening the weakened Spleen and Kidney and easing the Liver Qi.
